Muad Dib.HOPw!
Here is an interesting article on the Intel
Celeron chip from my summer professor at Gonzaga University who has moved on to the
University of Idaho. |

| Ooops this is a late
addition, but Happy Birthday Corrupt.BC! Thanks Madaxe.HOPw! We tried his new server. He was a 54
pinger and I was a 250 to 288 pinger. I only got "u_remove" twice on dm2
and not once on dm3. It very smooth so at least we know it can be a good 1on 1 server. I
think he will eventually get qwring installed so it will be a team server. Today it
cycles through the maps. Here is the IP 208.149.63.136:27500 |

Last call for your
300mhz chip that is a 450mhz chip from Accubyte according to Tweak3d.
"Accubyte has informed me that their SL2W8 surplus is
running low, and they are expected to run out in the next 2 to 3 days. If you wanted to
buy one, you should do it soon. Other places have them but most cannot secure your step #
as being a true SL2W8, so Accubyte is still a good place to buy one.
If you're still unsure of what the SL2W8 is, here is a better description. The SL2W8 is a
P2 300 w/ ~ 225 MHz L2 cache (instead of ~ 150 MHz) and a .25 micron Deschutes core. Since
Pentium IIs' L2 cache runs at 1/2 speed you can run this P2 300 at 450 MHz without any
problems. In fact, it is a TRUE P2 450 (100 MHz x 4.5). Other step #s include the SL2YK (a
retail version)."

| I'd like to welcome
Stinkin Steve to Clan HOPw. He has been playing with HOPw's for over a year and it's
about time he takes the test. He didn't do too bad either only losing 9 to 11 to me.
Congrats and welcome Stinkin.HOPw. I'd like to thank Clan Qgirlz for having us as allies. Thanks
Girls!

| These articles I have
been posting from Tweak3d may or may not be accurate. I don't know I don't have the
chip. I went to tomshardware and found this article on how to tell what a 450mhz
chip looks like. You could check this out and maybe it will help determine if the
chip is actually a 450mhz or someone just started this little story. Here is the link to an article
at tomshardware. Here is some more
information from Tweak3d about the P2 300 mhz that could be a P2 450mhz in disguise!
"About the prices of the SL2W8 5:00 PM
I have been receiving close to 100 emails per day telling me there are cheaper
places to buy the SL2W8s.
I called Accubyte and talked to their sales department again. They are actually
making special orders to obtain all these SL2W8s. That is why the people purchasing
are ending up paying about $20 more or so then previously stated. Keep in mind,
this is not some huge conspiracy or ripoff. In fact, the price of the plain
SL2W8s have only increased from $202 to $229 (no heatsink/fan/warranty).
If you want the fan/heatsink it'll set you back ~ $260. Still, there are
many reasons to buy from Accubyte over the other places. They have untapped
(no doctoring here) P2 300 SL2W8s. If you buy one from them, you just bought
a P2 450 (for the time being). Other places have been known to replace the cache
w/ the original P2 300 cache (supposedly Intel has done this? Maybe the distributors?
Who knows...). Accubyte will verify that it IS an undoctored P2 300 SL2W8, and
will even tell you that over the phone. Even if they were $400 it would still be an
excellent price on P2 450s.
If you want to save a few dollars by buying the product somewhere else and take the
risk of buying a P2 300 instead of a P2 450 it is your call.. but I take no
responsibility for that. I told you where to get them, and if you are willing
to risk it all for $20 to $50 then that is your choice. Keep in mind that if
you do in fact buy a doctored SL2W8 or a different step # altogether
(and want to return it) you will have to pay for shipping twice, wait for the
whole thing to happen, and even pay a restocking fee.
Tweak3D is not affiliated with Accubyte in any way and does not take responsibility
for any claims made here."

| If your in a shopping
mood and want to look into a possible 450mhz at 300mhz price check out this info.
I'm not saying it is true but.... This
news below I saw on http://www.tweak3d.com
Pentium II 450 MHz for
$200 5:15 PM
"Keep in mind, I only post this stuff
because I love ya all hehe.
The Tale of the SL2W8 etc.
As told by Dan "Tweak Monkey" Kennedy
I don't know if you guys have heard about
this, but I'm pretty sure you probably have.
Supposedly, Intel manufactured a bunch of extra P2 450s. They didn't want to flood the
market and force themselves to drop their own CPU prices, especially since the less
than P2 333s are selling well. So.. they set these P2 450s to run at 66 MHz bus
instead of 100, which made them well, P2 300s. There are a few specific step #s that
indicate that the P2 300 has the .25 micron and 4.5 ns cache. They are SL2W6, SL2W7,
SL2W8, SL2YK, SL2VY, and SL35V. The most common of which, and most likely to reach 450+ is
the SL2W8... keep in mind, Intel is trying hard to get rid of these fast so people don't
remark them and sell for a huge profit.
Well, this store called Accubyte sells the P2
300 for $202 (their page says $250, needs to be updated). When I called to order, they
specifically said "It's the SL2W8". Okay.. so I ordered one.. figured I could
have a P2 450 for my Canopus Spectra 2500 review (whoohoo!). It took 5 days to arrive.
Blah.. too bad I released the review yesterday... some lame holiday that I didn't even get
off for school delayed my FedEX.
I don't know if you guys have heard about this, but I'm pretty sure you probably have.

Anyway, I started up my PC. The BX6 set it to 66 x 4.5 (300 MHz), so I entered CPU soft
menu, and set it to 100 x 4.5 and enabled turbo mode (just for kicks), didn't tweak the
voltage, and didn't enable Speed Error Hold. It booted up. Everything seemed okay. I put
it through an hour of nonstop Unreal, 5 Quake II crusher demos, 10 glquake timedemos
without a single freeze. Try Unreal at 69 FPS 640x480 (STB Black Magic 12 meg SLI), 104
FPS Quake II 640x480 (demo 1), and 187 FPS GLQuake (demo2). And like I said, not a single
crash, cause you're not overclocking. I'm talking about a REAL P2 450 for $200.
Just for some more fun, I added a Glacier 4500 on there and set it to 112 x 4.5 (504 MHz)
and that worked flawlessly too. If I had better ram, I would put this big ass Peltier
thing Computer Nerd sent me on there and set it to 133 x 4.5. But ya know.. 600 MHz seems
a little impossible. =)

To sum it up, buy a P2 300 from Accubyte. It will be a P2 300 SL2W8 (ask if you don't
believe me =) ). It will run at 100 x 4.5 These are going fast.. so get one soon. Mine was
purchased on the 9th FYI. Let me know if any of this information is incorrect or if the
SL2W8s are sold out etc."

Knowfear.HOPw our only Mac user. Macquakeworld 2.3 beta 1 is

updating the servers pages. You will usually find me at the top 5 quake clanring

but not many HOPw's play quake ffa. |
