All things considered, this
performance went well. The stage crew person appointed to fetch us from
our tuning area got "lost," creating a large gap in the program. Then,
from the time we tuned until going on-stage, the climate abruptly changed
-- FROM 42 deg. F, slightly humid, breezy, -- TO 54 deg., driving rain,
gusting wind. Our Shepherd synthetic drone reeds went "nuts," even though
we tuned carefully between each set of tunes. My tenor drones cut out altogether
during the last set! INTOLERABLE -- MUST REPLACE THOSE!! (rwr)

A Spokane native, Lieutenant Davis
had been a Spokane County Sheriff's Deputy 10-17 years ago. During his
ten years service with the Ocean Shores, Washington Police Department,
he often participated in surf rescue operations in the icy Pacific Ocean.
During a recently sucessful rescue
attempt, his boat was overturned. While yet alive, he persistently and
successfully bolstered another officer's survival potential, then waved
onward a Coast Guard vessel which actually rescued the surfer. He drowned
before the Coast Guard could return to rescue him.

For the benefit of those here who are unaware, the Metis are a "Mixed-Blood"
people who share a heritage which is Native American, French Canadian and
Scots-Irish. Many attempts, during the past 150 years, to organize
and combat ethnic discrimination, have borne little fruit. Today,
the far greater numbers of such people are making better, if not entirely
effortless progress. A great percentage of today's Selkirk Celts,
perhaps the largest (living in the Inland Northwest), are Met is.
We offer our best wishes on the occasion of this gathering, but cannot
attend due to performance schedule conflicts here, and the fact that we
aren't in the habit of shuttling off to Vancouver Island on barely a week's
notice! WHEN are you meeting NEXT year?? {rwr}
