"Breathes there a man with soul so dead,
Who never to himself hath said,
This is my own, my native land?"
Sir Walter Scott
-------------------------------
Scots haven't always left Scotland by choice.  Reasons for leaving their native land were
myriad - to avoid religious persecution, because their military prowess was in demand by
European monarchs, because their old way of life was changing, or to escape poverty
and hardship.  Scotland is a small nation yet it is thought that 50 million or more
Americans have Scottish blood.  The Scots gained a reputation for courage, hard work,
perseverance and thrift.  Few Scots forgot their homeland and their roots even though
they were scattered throughout the British commonwealth, or in the U.S.

Clif is now a recent graduate of Eastern Washington University in K-12 Education, with a full minor in music.
He is competent at both sight reading and learning by ear, with extensive experience in percussion.
We are eager to bring Clif online as a strong figure in our "emerging" (!!) pipe band drum corps,

A Lapse of Seven Months -- ?
Please accept our apology for failing to maintain this page as diligently as in the past!

Indeed, there HAVE been changes associated with simple maintenance, but they haven't been noted here as in the past.   Personal health, family and professional issues have provided an abrupt decline in the amount of time available for the minutia of maintaining this site and a large array of other chores!  Those conditions have now seen improvement.

Because we do not own the server which very kindly hosts our site, and due to the strict security required of a university-owned server, password access to this site is sharply limited.  Therefore, it is impossible to assign site maintenance chores to a larger number of people, and many have offered to help!  If site managers Jim or Roger become indisposed, things just slow down or even stop for a while.

This isn't all bad, however!!  Some time away sheds old hang-ups and broadens horizons.  The hectic pace at which this site has grown provided little time to step back and see it from YOUR point of view.  Returning to the task with a clearer view is enormously worthwhile!

The "Home" page, once very simple and easy to use, had become a lengthy snarl of redundant and cross-referenced information, confused layout, and required FAR too long to download.  See how THAT has changed, just today!

The Links page has taken on a life of ITS own!!  REQUESTS for linkage, once rare, are now made several times a week!  Even with a DSL line, all of that takes time and sharp wits (not exhausted) to be done accurately and with the cross-referencing often required.  That single, LONG page takes TOO LONG to download!!  We'll soon cut it up into separate pages linked to a single index so that downloads are far less a waste of time!

Consortium and Band pages, long "under development." are due to be refreshed with both information and layout.

We're eliminating the often dysfunctional weather links.  If it's that important to you, set up a link on your personalized browser page.

Hit counters on each page are an enormous maintenance headache, especially when the counter server reformats every few months, wiping out all of our nearly 40 counters!  We will install new counters after investigating options here and there, but only our four primary pages -- Home, Band, Consortium & Links -- will have them.

Finally, the list of links which precedes this note will be properly installed on the Links list and removed from this page.  Some events which had NOT been listed here will be -- for a time -- so watch the 2001 entry list grow.  By summer's end, it is intended that listings here will again be no more than three months old.

This is no longer simply a Selkirk Celts site, which others may "also enjoy."  If YOU visit here regularly, it is also YOUR site!  Indeed, e-mail from around the world indicates that thousands have come to enjoy or depend upon us for an exhaustive list of information and referrals.

If YOU have a comment or suggestion
PLEASE drop us a note!

++ Cèud Mìle Fàilte!  "A Thousand Welcomes" -- And so, for kicks and giggles, we've been offline for ten weeks!
We're hoping to get the main pages back online tonight,  but perhaps not all linked together.
Most of the on-site links on our pages will lead nowhere
Several days may be required to re-link them all.

Our Needs & News
[ Our E Mail ]

If your organization/event site is within 400 linear miles of Spokane, PUT US ON YOUR MAILING LISTS (our mailing address is noted near the bottom of many of our pages). for Highland Games, Irish and Celtic festivals, etc.  We will advertise them here free,  If WE don't show up this year, we very well may next year!

Let's LINK TOGETHER!  A major portion of our mission is to inform & educate people.  If you are a client, neighbor (within 400 linear miles of Spokane), or show interest in us through frequent e-mail correspondence, or simply have a particularly fascinating (but relevant) web page/site, we'll consider listing it on our site. We always appreciate, but don't demand, reciprocal generosity on your part!

--------------------------------------------------

WE NEED EXPERIENCED DRUMMERS/PERCUSSIONISTS, with or without pipe band experience.  Personality traits, reliability, motivation, and leadership potential are important.  Provide resume and references via the usual interview and audition procedures, as noted on the Pipes & Drums page.

DUAL BAND MEMBERSHIPS -- If you belong to another, nearby pipe band, and are willing to subscribe to our leadership and methods, including weekly private instruction (Grades III - V) and regular attendance at weekly and pre-performance band rehearsals, you are welcome to apply via the usual interview and audition procedures, as noted on the Pipes & Drums page. (There have been serious enquiries! That's why we put this here --.)

NON-RESIDENT PLAYERS -- We welcome experienced, dedicated musicians from both within and beyond the Inland Northwest who would enjoy performing with us occasionally.  Contact us for specific arrangements.  (There have been enquiries here, too!)
