Frog Hackey Sack

This hackey sack is crocheted out of DMC 6-strand embroidery floss; approximatley 3 (8 yd) skeins white, 1 skein light green, 5 skeins dark green. trace amount of black, red, for embroidering frog's "face".
It is filled with generic plastic / PVC pellets you can steal from any of various stuffed animals.
This hackey sack was crocheted with a size "2" / 2.25 mm "wrights/boye" style hook.
Some amount of skill will be required to make this hackey sack, because it involves crocheting in a spiral, crocheting with different colors, and crocheting various shapes, as well as crochet embroidering.

The hackey sack is worked in a spiral, starting at the top (the frog's back) and ending at the bottom (the frog's belly).
To start, use dark green and chain 3 and work 7 sc in the 3rd chain from hook. Start working in a spiral but keep track of where your round "begins" and "ends"
Round 1 (you just did this round): 7 sc
Round 2: work 2 sc in each sc below, 14 sc.
Round 3: work 2 sc in next sc, work 1 sc in next sc, repeat around for 21 sc.
Round 4: increase 7 sc (28 sc)
Round 5: inc 7 sc (35 sc)
Round 6: inc 5 sc (40 sc)
*see figure "1" to see what it should look like now*
round 7-11: inc 4 sc (44 sc, 48 sc, 52 sc, 56 sc, 60 sc)
round 12: inc 3 sc (63 sc)
round 13: inc 1 sc (64 sc)
round 14,15,16,17,18 work even in 64 sc each round. however, round 15 is where you will first need to start using white to make the whites of the eyeballs.
*see figure "2" to see what it should look like after eyeballs*
round 19,20: work even sc (still dark green)
round 21,22,23,24,25: start using light green instead of dark green, also some white where the arms will go, if you want.
try to bridge the dark green to the light green in a round shape where the mouth will go.
*see figure "3" to see what it should look like after making a spot for the mouth"
round 26: work even 64 sc, with white now. remainder of frog body is worked with white
round 27: 63 sc
round 28: 60 sc
round 29... continue decreasing in sc the same way you increased, for a recap:
56, 52, 48, 44, 40, 35, 28, 21
*see figure "4" to see what it should look like with 21 sc around*
At this point, add your beads. Fill it to your liking-- all the way for a very springy hackey sack, or only half-way to be easier to stall.
decrease to 14 sc, and then continue working 1 sc in every 2nd sc below until the hole is closed entirely. tie off end.
*see figure "5" to see what it should look like after end is tied off*

Next step: embroidering face. Use black thread to make pupils and nostrils (just do chain stitch or cross-stitching technique). Use red thread for the mouth.
*see figure "6" to see what it should look like with embroidered face*

Next step: add arms and legs. Work a row of chain stitch and then turn and work your scs into these chains. I'm not going to go into the exact pattern for the arms and legs, you will just have to figure it out. Just as a hint, for the fingers i chained 3, then worked 2 sc in those chains, then 1 sc in the stitch below, and repeated. toes chain 4 work 3 sc.

A tip for hiding your ends: It is possible, although kind of tricky to figure out, to tie two loose ends into a tight square knot inside of the hackey sack. This should keep them from coming out. Also, you can pull two strands together out of the sack, tie them into a single knot, then pull the knot back into the sack and clip some of the loose end. If you've made it this far, you can probably figure something out!

Now, the final product!
