SPECIFIC INFORMATION REGARDING INVITATIONS TO HOST NORMA MCCORVEY

Please read the following carefully before contacting the Ministry regarding Ms. McCorvey's availability to speak.

Thank you for contacting us

Thank you for your interest in Crossing Over Ministry regarding your next pro-life event.  We are happy and excited that you have decided to consider hosting us at your important event.  We are hopeful that the following information is helpful in your decision-making.  If we can be of any help during your planning process, please do not hesitate to contact us.

I.  About Miss Norma

Ms. Norma L. McCorvey was born September 22, 1947 in Simmesport, Louisiana.  Having no formal education, her life-story does not require dictionary-sized words; Miss Norma’s life and conversion is a story attributed only to God himself.  In 1969, two lawyers from Texas, Sarah Weddington and Linda Coffee were looking to overturn the Texas abortion statute.  They approached a pregnant Norma McCorvey.  In the end, Miss Norma signed on the dotted line making her the plaintiff in an abortion suit against the State of Texas.  This case would later evolve into the infamous Supreme Court case that legalized abortion in this country.  After over 28 years of guilt induced drug binges and various jobs in abortion clinics in an attempt to justify her involvement in the case, Norma McCorvey did the unthinkable.  As the former “poster-girl” for abortion who, in the words of a friend, “jumped off of the poster and into the arms of Christ,” Norma truly began to live her life for herself.  As our slogan says, she now speaks the truth, and we are dedicated to spreading the truth as Norma lived it.  Roe v. Wade is not liberation for women, but was a case based on lies and deceit.  Miss Norma now devotes her life to speaking the truth…and the rest is history.

II.  Interested in hosting Miss Norma?

If Norma sounds as if she would be an asset to your event, we invite you to contact the ministry’s scheduler, via the online online interest form provided below.  The Ministry scheduler is the single point of contact to answer questions and also to begin to schedule a date on which Ms. McCorvey might attend your event.

III.  A few things to consider when arranging a date for your event

A.    First and foremost, please consider and anticipate weather conditions in your area.  At best, we ask that a day of cushion be added so that in the event of weather, Norma can still make it to your event on time.

B.    Please also consider that at times, certain months are booked a year in advance.  Obviously, we ask that you consider a date that allows ample time for scheduling in advance.

IV.  Communication

A.   The key to a successful event is good communication.  Most importantly, we ask that you keep the Ministry abreast to any changes in Miss Norma’s event schedule – both additions and alterations.  Specifically, we discourage schedules that are busy from six a.m. to ten p.m., as has happened in the past.

B.   We request that a complete event itinerary be submitted for pre-approval.

C.   Any changes to the approved itinerary are subject to re-approval by Crossing Over Ministry.  This is simply to ensure that the format of the events does not drastically change without Ms. McCorvey’s knowledge and consent.

V.  Honorarium

A.  The Ministry asks for an honorarium donation of $3,500.00 plus the costs of travel and lodging.  Crossing Over Ministry handles all logistical arrangements, such as hotel and flight reservations, however the cost of these are the responsibility of the hosting organization.

B.  To reserve a date, a $700.00 deposit is required; this amount is then applied to the honorarium balance.  Before sending your deposit, please receive confirmation of a date from Ms. McCorvey's scheduler.

C.  Crossing Over Ministry survives solely on donations from Ms. McCorvey's speaking ministry.  It is provided no additional outside support by any sponsoring organizations.  We appreciate your understand in this regard and look forward to working through any financial considerations that might be facing your group.

VI.  Event Specifics

A.   Typically, Norma’s testimony and speech, although tailored to your specific event, lasts on average about forty-five minutes.  It is important that you relay to us the context of the situation so that Ms. McCorvey’s comments can be tailored to that situation.

B.   If you are interested in hosting a question and answer period, please be aware that we request that this event be limited to one-half hour.  This time limit is to ensure that the questions asked are most concise, yet informative.  We also require that questions be written on cards by the audience and then read by a moderator; this ensures that questions are not repeated and that a wide variety of questions are answered.  Open microphone question and answer periods are highly discouraged.

C.  Norma prefers to present her story and personal testimony in a positive, pro-life environment; to accomplish this, Miss Norma prefers not to partake in debates.

D.   In keeping with the goal of presenting her message in a peaceful, Christian environment, Miss Norma prefers not to participate in protesting of any kind.

E.   Miss Norma asks that event attendees and the press refrain from flash photography during her presentation.  Videoing her presentation is acceptable upon permission.

F.   Outside rallies are subject to approval by Norma McCorvey and Crossing Over Ministry.

G.  Unless explicit permission is granted, Norma makes her presentation once per trip; this ensures that the organizing committee devotes all its resources toward one large event, instead of many small events.  Having many small events is taxing on Norma and her schedule.  Thank you for your understanding.

VII.  Event Security

A.  While this is not an issue for every event, we ask that you consider any security issues that might take place.  This issue may be of special importance to those holding rallies where large, uncontrolled crowds are possible.  Basically, we ask that you consider the possible hostility of an event or crowd when scheduling an event.

B.  Please also be aware of the possibility of protestors against Miss Norma.  In the event of known or anticipated protestors against her, please alert Crossing Over Ministry immediately.

VIII.  Interviews with the press

A.  Owing in large part to past experiences, Miss Norma only grants interviews to Christian or pro-life press representatives; this includes print, electronic, television, and radio.  Requests outside this requirement will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

B.  We do encourage hosting groups to utilize the secular press for the advertisement of your event, if you prefer.

C.  Any press event should be arranged beforehand and be cleared, along with the complete event schedule, with the Ministry scheduler.

D.  As a general requirement we ask that a copy of any press interviews be forwarded to the Ministry’s office.

IX.  Press Releases

Due to the number of engagements with which Norma is involved, Crossing Over Ministry is unable to provide press releases for every appearance.

  • We do, however, welcome any questions or solicitations for help with the drafting of these press materials that you may have.

  • If you would like a sound bite or quote from Miss Norma to be used in your press materials, please contact us.

XII.  Book Signings

During Miss Norma’s stay in your area, she is available for book signings.  We ask that you let us know if Miss Norma needs to bring books to sell at these events.

XIII.  Miss Norma’s faith tradition

This note is intended to put rumors to rest and also to assure those of all faiths where Miss Norma stands on this issue.  Ms. McCorvey is unapologetically Roman Catholic.  While she accepted Christ in her heart in 1995, her faith journey eventually led her to the Catholic Church in 1998, where she has been at home since.  For some, this has had little effect on the ministry; still others believe that it has changed Miss Norma’s message.  Ultimately, it is important to understand that Crossing Over Ministry is unequivocally non-denominational. Our message, our ministry, and our relationships are not affected by what Christian creed you may profess.  Norma is a firm believer in the fact that as Christians, we need to come together and spread the Good News of life ecumenically as opposed to trying to convert each other.  If you have any other concerns regarding this subject, please contact us.

XIV.  The Letter of Intent

One of the most important parts of our communication, the letter of intent, is required so that from the beginning, the Ministry understands all aspects of the event.  This letter primarily is the official way in which your group invites Ms. McCorvey to your event.  Secondarily, we ask that you discuss, in the letter, the following: event specifics and logistics, flight options, any other travel arrangements, lodging information, security issues, and any other pertinent information.  For internet inquiries, the below online form serves as an adequate indication of interest.
