This is perhaps the Coreys, most distinguishing mark. John Singleton Copley was, according to encyclopedia.com, considered the "greatest of the American old master painters ("John Singleton Copley). Best known for his "brilliant and clear portraits, he was an internationally-recognized artist (ibid). Notable portraits include that of Paul Revere, the Governor of Pennsylvania, Samuel Adams and others now on permanent display at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the Art Institution in Chicago (ibid). Also famous is his portrait of his family, The Copley Family, 1777 (see below). The Coreys, ability to cite multiple portraits painted by him is, therefore, a mark of the highest society.

Incidentally, Copley,s son was a well-known British lawyer who also served as a Parliamentary member, solicitor general, attorney general, and Lord Chancellor on three occasions ("Lyndhurst, John Singleton Copley, Baron). Understandably, the Copley name is written all over Boston today, lending its name to the oldest non profit art association in the US, as well as innumerable plazas, hotels, malls (copleysociety.org).
