The following is taken directly
from HERO's club charter: (Charter last revised 3/24/95)
Preamble Recognizing the need for
education and awareness concerning sexual/affectional orientation
issues in an effort to eliminate discrimination against gay, lesbian,
and bisexual people at Gonzaga
University, and seeking to understand and develop the authentic
teachings of the Catholic Church regarding sexual
affectation/orientation, Helping Educate Regarding Orientation
presents this constitution to establish a recognized club for
bisexual, lesbian, and gay students, faculty, staff and their friends
and any others who work toward the common goals of, with, and adhering
to this constitution. The nature of this club, to sponsor educational
opportunities for the Gonzaga community through collaboration with the
administration of Gonzaga University, guarantees that it will adhere
to the guidelines, policies, and Mission Statement of Gonzaga
University as stated by the Administration and the Board of Trustees.
Purpose HERO seeks to end
discrimination and potential discrimination based on
sexual/affectional orientation and by collaborating with the
University's administration, in accordance with authentic church
teaching, the University's Mission Statement, and the Mission
Statement of HERO.
